The Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood
(Established 1963)

Bill English - Branch Liaison Officer.

I am currently serving on the NEC as Branch Liaison Officer. I am Fifty One years young and was born in the same year as Sputnik 1 and 2 were launched, the European Common Market was founded and Humphrey Bogart passed away. My school days ended in 1974 when I was sixteen. I had a brief spell working in an antiques shop shortly after leaving school before joining the Civil Service in what I thought would be a job for life. Thankfully, I’m still alive but no longer in the Civil Service.

I first started visiting pubs in 1974 and then in 1978 went to my first ever beer festival which was the Great British Beer festival at Alexander Palace where I found salvation – Real Ale! I found further salvation when I joined CAMRA and SPBW in the early 1980s. More recently I became a PINT (Dutch equivalent of CAMRA) member in 2006 and a CAMAL (Campaign for Authentic Lager) in 2007.

My interests are drinking Real Ale or authentic Lager, pubs, brewery visits, SPBW, CAMRA, cricket (Middlesex), football (Chelsea and Orient) and travelling which also includes visiting overseas beer festivals. Other interests include cinema and to retire with lots of money and never have to work again.
